The working of the subgroups

Executive Group

An Executive Group supports the Board and is responsible for driving forward the WSCB Business Plan operationally.

Subgroups:

Safeguarding Children Operational Group (SCOG)

Front line managers from across the partnership ensure policies, guidance, learning from Serious Case Reviews and new developments are effectively disseminated. The subgroup also provides managers with direct lines of access and accountability to the Board. This has increased the Board’s reach and its scrutiny of front line practice.

Missing Children, Child Sexual Exploitation and Trafficked Children Subgroup

The group scrutinises the effectiveness of services and the quality of the infrastructure to keep children and young people at risk of sexual exploitation and missing from home and care safe.

Learning and Development Subgroup

The Learning and Development Subgroup has ensured a full and focused delivery of multi-agency training in relation to safeguarding and has led on the commissioning of this new website.

Criteria and Approval Panel

The Criteria and Approval Panel meets when a case is identified that may require a serious case review or a WSCB Case Review.  The Panel also monitors delivery on our Learning and Improvement Framework.

Scrutiny Group

The Scrutiny Group has examined relevant performance data and section 11 audits in order to analyse the effectiveness of help provided to families to safeguard and promote the welfare of our children and young people.

Policy and Practice Subgroup

The Policy and Practice Subgroup approves local policies and strategies and has set up a ‘Practitioners’ group so that the board can draw on practitioners expertise.

Pan Cheshire Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP)

Figures of all child deaths up to the age of 18, excluding babies who are stillborn and planned legal terminations, are low in each LSCB area in Cheshire. This makes it more difficult to aggregate findings and maximise learning opportunities. We have therefore set up a Pan-Cheshire Child Death and Overview panel (CDOP); this has provided greater clarity of understanding about local child deaths.

Pan Cheshire Policy Group

This group consists of representatives from Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton and Warrington Safeguarding Children Boards and looks to ensure consistency in policy and procedures across the ‘Pan’ Cheshire footprint.

Pan Cheshire Missing, Child Sexual Exploitation, Trafficking Strategic Meeting

This group consists of representatives from Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton and Warrington Safeguarding Children Boards and partners from the statutory and voluntary sectors and looks to ensure consistency in response to child sexual exploitation across the ‘Pan’ Cheshire footprint.
